Leaves of Season Past

No one tries to reattach
fallen autumn leaves
that are on to other places—

Even the tree does not await a single one.

Loss so gradual, barely noticed by it
or we, enamored by colors,
until suddenly—

It’s gone—

Green Tree of Summer
where we found sun-sheltered
shade and laughter.

It’s here—

The branching reminder
where we find no call to chase
Leaves of Season Past

for laughter that’s on to other seasons–
and to where one is.
