Solve *

A girl looking for the words
becomes a poet looking for the girl,
becomes a woman looking for horizons,
a fluid turning of the planet,
a moon’s destiny—
to return unrequited
to depart without leave.

A word, a place, a girl, a woman—
resolve to solve mysteries
that, from a distance
disagree and dissolve
like a foam line on the beach,
a paused line on the page,
watching for cresting wave or whale,
a flicker of light on dark.

A resolving revolving wait—
lonely on the shore,
an emerging hour,
submerged heart at sea,
somehow meeting,
finding their poetry,
never solving the mystery
of search, wait, love,
and belonging.

Never having to.

  1. Your poetry is always lovely.

BUT IT IS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHS that consistently TAKE MY BREATH AWAY! How do you SEE those things…those shots?

    • Oh, Bette! Thank you! I love how accessible images are——how they can tantalize intellectually, and touch emotionally (no shared verbal or written language required).
