What’s in a Guess?

Why the prize for the one right answer?
No prize for the very good guess?
Don’t guesses count?

Children wave their hands—I know! I know!

If their guesses were valued,
they’d feel engaged forever.
They’d keep eagerly seeking and imagining
in a way that leads to finding answers.

If guesses were valued.

They’d be waving their hands, and
an answer, a chore, a hope,
another question
that keeps us guessing.
