Companionship of Senses

Image by marso

When I say, look outside—
the rain,
I’m not asking you to stop it.

When I say, look outside—
how dark ,
I’m not asking you to light it.

I only seek your companionship
of seeing, feeling, noticing—
along with me.

  1. BEAUTIFUL ! Reminds me of some of the “trite” comments my husband loves to make about the weather. Comments that I tend to disregard/ignore. I won’t do that any more–I will see that he is just trying to ENGAGE me!

    Thanks!

  2. I agree with Bette’s comment. Looking at it from another perspective; I think of friends who listen to each others concerns and lend a loving ear knowing that that they are not expected to solve the problem, but only to be a friend to lean on.

    • Yes. Your comment reminds me that I could add a verse (or another poem) describing an example of engaging while noting something beautiful:
      When I say look outside–
      apricot sky,
      and you turn to look,
      how I see you then!
