Beyond the Bone

I heard it snap—
my ankle bone,
the sound came first,
then wonder,
then pain—
that gave astonishment
indelible memory
long after the ache was gone.
Do spirit seekers study anatomy?
Do they not think they’ll find
what they’re looking for?
Oh, you, anyone,
who ignores
the body
as material:
consider it once again—
not as that which distracts
a higher quest,
but as that which can wake us—
in a snap—
and in a long
healing
of
the
bone.
